Steward ownership is a hot topic. Although the number of Dutch companies adopting this alternative ownership structure is still relatively limited, this subject is receiving increasing attention among entrepreneurs, politicians, lawyers, and investors. The reason for this is the widely held discussion regarding the social responsibility of companies and the role that (institutional) shareholders play in that. In this article, I will address the concept of steward ownership within Dutch legal practice, specifically focusing on the points of attention when structuring equity investments in steward-owned companies.
